Introduction

In this webquest, students learn more about themselves and the challenges they will face in adolescence by reading selected articles, assessing their long-term goals, preparing an autobiography, interviewing a trusted adult and reflecting on these learning activities in the Personal Health Journal.

Resources

Teachers should review carefully several specific documents and Personal Health Journal. is not part of the teacher's strategy for the regular course, students should be given an orientation in such journaling prior to doing this webquest. Similarly, the teacher should review the Autobiography with the students before they start this webquest.

As well, teachers should review the suggested questions for the interview with a trusted adult to ensure that students are comfortable asking these questions. (The questions came from a lesson plan from a credible source but they may be difficult for some students.)

Task and Process

Review the various assessment rubics developed for this webquest with your students. You may wish to adapt some of these criteria before the students start the webquest

Conclusions and Extension

The essence of this webquest is to encourage students to reflect on their experiences and plans in life, using the devices of an autobiography and an intergenerational comparison. Encourage your students to use the private sections of their Personal Health Journal to write down and think about their thoughts.

Some of this process may be difficult for some students, so be certain to note that students can access various sources of support if they want to talk with someone. Identify adults in the school, yourself, the local clinic and the Kids Help Phone as potential places to call upon.
