Students are going to look at this issue from the point of view of doctors, smokers, and anti-smoking lobbyists. After collecting the information and discussing the issues from their point of view, they will join together with others to debate the issue and perhaps reach a consensus. | |||

| In this webquest, students will create a class book or display that will educate other young people so they will not be fooled by the advertisements around them. The book or display will include graphs constructed and then analyzed to show who various magazines and tobacco companies are targeting by where they choose to advertise. Students will have a list of the magazines that tobacco companies choose to advertise in the most, and those magazines who run no tobacco ads. They will select individual ads and analyze and identify the message the ads are sending to people. They will then redraw and redesign the ad to tell the truth about smoking. | |||

| CBC news has just been notified that the Canadian government is presently holding discussions on the smoking laws in British Columbia. Within the next twelve hours, provincial authorities will decide if smoking will become illegal within our province. This means that stores will not be allowed to sell cigarettes or tobacco products of any kind, and no person will be permitted to smoke anywhere within the boundaries of British Columbia. No smoking inside, no smoking outside. The government is requesting qualified researchers to investigate the ramifications of tobacco use in our province. | |||
