Introduction

This webquest places students in a unique situation where they evaluate approaches and advice usually given to parents about talking to their children about sex.

This webquest is suitable for junior high students and can be accomplished by a single student. However, it will be more interesting for the students to work with others.

Resources

The use of the postcard feature of the www.sexualityandu.ca website should be a fun way for students to demonstrate what they have learned.

Task and Process

This webquest may elicit surprise or concern among some parents if they do not know its purpose in advance. Ask students to tell their parents before they start.

The  research report and the critical assessment of advice being given to parents may be challenging for some students. Some students may be reluctant to involve their parents. Be certain that students can send their postcard to another trusted adult, including you or other teachers.

Assessment Criteria and Process

Review the evaluation criteria suggested for this webquest with your students to determine if they need to be adapted.

Conclusions and Extension

Some students may come to see their inability/reluctance to talk with their parents about sexual health issues as a source of concern. Ensure that students realize that there are many credible, trusted people or organizations to whom they may speak.
