Introduction

This relatively simple webquest is aimed directly at answering answering questions that youth have about the physical changes that occur during puberty. The students who choose this webquest will learn the essential facts about their bodies by preparing a brochure or display for other students.

Resources

This webquests requires that students be able to retell the content of the assigned readings in their own words. The Visual Thesaurus website used during this webquest could be used for other student projects. It is an interesting tool, as students enter a work (left-side of the page), then click on the words that appear. Related concepts and synonyms will appear in a moving spider web drawing. (Students will need high speed Internet access to benefit fully from this website.)

Task and Process

The task and process for this webquest are simple and straightforward. Teachers should review the relevant sections of the Personal Health Journal and the student tool Discussing and Defining Health Topics and Terms with the students to ensure they understand the task.

Assessment Criteria Process

Review the evolution criteria documents with your students to see if they need to be adapted.

Conclusions and Extension

Encourage your students to distribute their brochure to their classmates or even the entire school. Help the students make contact with local health clinics to see if their brochure can be printed and made available there.

Please note that this factual webquest which answers relatively simple questions about puberty, can lead to more complex questions about sexual orientation and body image.

Ensure that students know the appropriate place and appropriate people to ask these questions. This can include local health clinics, sexuality organizations, the public health nurse or if already established, an anonymous question box for your classes.
