Schools for All: Putting the Pieces Together to Alleviate Disadvantage

The Canadian Association for School Health is pleased to announce that the sixth annual conference is a joint venture with the Canadian Association for Community Education. A national planning team has worked to create a unique program, one that addresses disadvantage for the first time through a comprehensive approach, uniting the efforts of those working to promote healthy schools, community schools and safe schools as well as others. There has been much talk about social determinants, equity, poverty as aspects of our work in health, crime prevention and community development. This is the first Canadian event to start with a  local community context (rather than the whole population), identify the issues most relevant to that context (rather than a pre-selected issue) and then bring together a package of programs that address and alleviate disadvantage (rather than a pres-elected program). Participants should  return from this event with new perspectives, a new paradigm and several practical ideas.

Preliminary Program

The program brings together expertise from the Atlantic Region, Canada and also international community. The conference starts on the evening on April 21st with symposia organized by our Communities of Practice (watch for confirming details). It will end on April 23rd. Your registration at the conference  also provides you with access to four international webinars being organized in preparation for an international symposium being held in Geneva in July 2010. Learn more about the connections between health, equity and sustainability before you go to Halifax!

Registration Form

The registration fee for this conference offers a significant benefit for paying organizational members of the Canadian School Health Knowledge Network (which includes 30 webinars a year and a subscription to an international blog tracking research and news). Members will be able to send as many delegates to the conference as they want at the reduced price of $325 instead of $475. See to join or renew your membership in the CSH Knowledge Network.
