Effective Health Education

This web site offers links to thousands of health education lesson plans as a service to teachers and those who support teachers. These lesson plans have been identified through a variety of small projects funded by a variety of federal and non-profit organizations. It is hoped that eventually all topic areas listed in the left hand margin will be covered. But please note that these grants have been one time in nature, so it is not always possible for us to maintain the links when the publishing web sites change.

The lesson plans have been screened for commercialism and general educational value. They have also been categorized by grade level and by an evidence-based framework that emphasizes items such as practical/applied knowledge about the topic, decision-making skills, attitudes/beliefs and personal health action plans. This framework is consistent with provincial/territorial curriculum guidelines.

However, teachers still need to decide if the lesson is appropriate for their students and community and to select lesson plans that are in accordance with their respective provincial/territorial guidelines and other directives from their local school boards. Links have also been provided to provincial/territorial curricula to assist in that selection process. Teachers should also consult their school boards about prevention programs and lesson plans.

Teachers can also contact a variety of professional organizations and experts when selecting prevention programs. A good source for all curricula is
