Communities of Practice in School Health Promotion

Canadian School Health Knowledge Network is initiating and facilitating several Communities of Practice (CoPs) using new web-based collaboration tools, telephone calls and annual symposia to share information and knowledge among practitioners, experts, government officials, policy-makers and non-governmental organizations.

The use of mini-networks or professional learning communities is growing in education, health and other sectors. As part of our ongoing work to develop and support the CSH Knowledge Network, we are initiating several Communities of Practice.

We are beginning with the list of topics listed in the left hand navigation bar.

Our goal is to bring together local agencies (school boards, health authorities, other agencies) who are working in health or social problems or different aspects. We will do that in these ways:

  • regular telephone conference calls to plan joint activities
  • webinars (using web meeting technology and conference calls)
  • symposia at the regular school health conference
  • use of wiki techonology of shared work spaces
  • joint project applications for projects and research

Please visit the school health wiki-toolboxes and then join the communities of practice that meets your needs.
