User Survey

Welcome. This gateway is designed to help teachers and other educators locate lesson plans and classroom-based learning activities on several chronic diseases. Many lessons and learning activities from credible sources have been identified. They are screened for their general educational value and commercialism only. You still need to check with your provincial/territorial guidelines, school district policies and use your own professional judgment on whether these lessons and activities are appropriate for your students. The Canadian Association for School Health (CASH) and the Canadian Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (CAHPERD) thank Canadian Diabetes Strategy for the support needed to develop this collection of lesson plans.

To use this site effectively, we recommend that you :

  1. Review the recommended or required provincial/territorial learning outcomes so that you know what you have to cover in your physical education program.
  2. Read the background information supplied here or go to the linked sites that we have identified. In particular, we recommend reading the Health Canada publications:

bullet Diabetes in Canada

bullet The Changing Face of Heart Disease and Stroke in Canada

bullet The Prevention and Management of Asthma in Canada

bullet Facts on Cancer
  3. Review the topics and learning outcomes that are found in the table below. These topics and learning outcomes have been identified from a variety of credible sources . However, they are not intended to be the final word and, besides, you need to select or follow the outcomes that are most appropriate for your students.
  4.

Select the lesson plans or learning activities for your students by visiting and reading each lesson plan in the table below. For your convenience, we will also list, at a later date,  published programs and learning resources that are not on the web, but which can be purchased from other sources.

Please contact us with comments on lesson/learning activities or if you would like to suggest other lesson plans. dmccall@schoolfile.com. Also, please take time to complete our user survey.

See table below to find hundreds of lesson plans, online learning activities and learning resources.
