PROVINCIAL/TERRITORIAL CURRICULUM


 

This planner can be used to organize the websites and offline resources that you have selected as part of your WebQuest. Before starting, we suggest that a review be done of the section on Using WebQuests in Health Education and also a review of the Online Template for Preparing Students Instructions. Both of these sources will guide you as you plan out your WebQuest.

Long-Term

Involve 4-6 students, with each student visiting different sites, returning with information as part of pre-arranged roles, occurs over term of 4-6 weeks, with class or school project.

Time required = 3-5 hours online, 5 hours individual work, 507 hours group work, 5-10 hours class, school or community project.

Outcomes: (Select sites and offline resources that achieve these types of outcomes:)

  • Acquire and synthesize information to create knowledge on several topics woven into a thematic quest.
  • Develop new or strengthen attitudes/beliefs about 3-4 topics through online activities, group discussion and offline activity.
  • Acquire 2 or 3 new insights into self-knowledge through online activity.
  • Learn how, where to access 2-3 forms of social support.
  • Learn how to access 2-3 health services related to quest.
  • Advocate for changes in services/support to youth as a way to strengthen values and beliefs.
  • Strengthen behavioural intention through small group discussions and group project/presentation.
  • Encounter 1 or 2 special needs or special situations as part of the quest.

Essential Student Tasks (Adapt these basic tasks for your WebQuest)

1. Students meet to define project, review and adapt parameters, decide on roles, etc.

2. Each student visits the series of pre-selected sites, gathers information, reports back to the group.

3. Group maps out information and insights they have gained about the sexual health issues they studied.

4. Group decides on how their quest will seek to influence the behaviour of their friends, school, class or community.

5. Group undertakes class, school or community project.

6. Each student makes entries into their personal health journal.
