Implementation Issues

A comprehensive school health (CSH) approach can be used to prevent many health and other problems. In this section, direct links to web documents that provide summaries, journal articles, research, selected reports, local examples, planning and assessment tools and education materials or programs are identified.

These documents are listed by health topic and CSH strategy under the different elements of a CSH approach. (See left hand margin). Use these documents to gather ideas and research that apply a CSH approach to health issues. For your convenience, a summary, checklist and a consensus statement for each issue whenever they have been published by Canadian organizations have been identified. Lists of resources are being prepared as time or funding allows and are drawn from Canadian and international resources.

The CSH approach provides a ready made checklist, a practical planning and assessment tool that can be adapted to each issue and is flexible to work with in different situations and circumstances. This is where the CSH approach becomes most valuable.

It is probably better to build a CSH approach by addressing one issue at a time rather than trying to create a truly comprehensive set of programs and services that address several health issues at once.

However, a planning process will have to be created that helps identify partners, use strategic thinking and capitalize on existing opportunities, overcome specific barriers and achieve realistic results.
