This
page describes the work of the CSH National Non-Governmental Organizations
(NGO) Network. The informal network of national non-governmental
organizations is concerned with promoting health, social development and
learning of children and youth through school-based or school-linked
health promotion policies, programs, practices or activities.
The purpose of the School Health NGO Network is:
 |
To facilitate a shared
voice and common positions at the national level while respecting the
right of members to take different positions and to express themselves
as they deem appropriate as well as noting that many national
organizations cannot dictate positions for their respective provincial
members. Members of the Network will be able to opt in or out of signing
onto positions depending on the focus and relationship to each
association's mandate.
|
 |
To share
information about events, activities and other matters pertaining to
school health through periodic meetings, roundtables on specific issues,
email and linked web sites.
|
 |
To facilitate partnerships between CSHN
members on specific activities.
|
The current activities of the NGO Network include:
 |
Revising and endorsing a
national Consensus Statement on Comprehensive School Health. This
statement will act as a signpost for further development of school-based
and school-linked health promotion programs in Canada.
|
 |
Advocating in a
timely manner for funding for local school health coordinators and other
system capacities in health education to maintain effective,
comprehensive school health programs.
|
 |
Advocating for
broad comprehensive approach from the Joint Consortium on School Health,
Health Canada and the Public Health Agency that addresses and integrates
all issues that affect the healthy development of children and youth in
a systematic and planned way within a holistic view of the child.
|
 |
Participating in
the development of the CCL Health & Learning Knowledge Centre through
the Canadian School Health Knowledge Network to ensure effective
knowledge exchange and dissemination.
|
 |
Advocating for
improved, high level coordination between the Public Health Agency of
Canada and Health Canada and other federal departments about school
health as well as better internal coordination within those departments.
|
 |
Organizing periodic
roundtable meetings and national agencies to facilitate cooperation and
communication.
|
 |
Developing common messaging to
politicians regarding Comprehensive School Health that could be used in
election campaigns and other advocacy activities at the local,
provincial/territorial and national levels.
